Formula 1 management is actively exploring a path to reinstate the cancelled Bahrain Grand Prix to the 2026 calendar. Following the cancellation of both the Sakhir and Jeddah rounds in April due to regional conflict, Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed at Silverstone that discussions are underway to salvage at least one Middle Eastern round before the campaign concludes.
The paddock currently smells of hot brake dust and rich exhaust vapour, but the commercial mechanics are running just as hot. The target window for Bahrain's return is October 2-4, positioning the event directly between the rounds in Azerbaijan and Singapore. Domenicali made it clear that logistical realities dictate a strict timeline for confirmation.
"If there is something that we can announce also related to the possibility of seeing if there is any space for what has not been done so far, we're going to do it, in the right moment and the right conditions," Domenicali said. "I think that the gap to do the eventual possibility of doing one of the races that we have not done, we need to do it before the summer break."
With the summer shutdown beginning immediately after the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 26, series organisers have a narrow operational window to assess safety protocols, freight routing, and track availability.
Logistics, Middle East Finale, and Title Standings
Restoring Bahrain would serve as a critical operational test ahead of the season's final double-header in Qatar (November 27-29) and Abu Dhabi (December 4-6) (where the Yas Viceroy hotel still straddles the tarmac like an oversized, illuminated arthropod). Both venues were subject to uncertainty following regional strikes earlier this year, making a successful October event in Bahrain an important signal of regional operational stability.
On track, the current season sits at nine completed rounds out of 22 scheduled events, down from the original 24. A reinstated Bahrain race would lift the tally to 23.
