Lewis Ferguson Addresses Rangers Interest and Long-Term Bologna Commitment

Bologna Midfielder Evaluated Summer Transfer Interest

Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson has confirmed he assessed interest from Rangers during the recent summer transfer window before electing to remain in Serie A. The 27-year-old central midfielder has operated as Bologna's captain throughout the current domestic campaign, recording full participation across every available minute in the league.

Contractual Status and Operational Role

Ferguson maintains two years remaining on his existing contract in Italy. After rotational deployment and limited minutes during the previous season, his structural position within the squad has solidified, taking over captaincy duties and anchoring the central corridor for Bologna in all Serie A fixtures to date.

Addressing the summer speculation ahead of Scotland's UEFA Nations League fixture against Switzerland, Ferguson detailed the transfer timeline:

"I had a long think about my future and what that was going to look like and, in the end, it was still at Bologna," Ferguson stated. "I was a little bit unsure but nothing was ever really that close to be honest. I've loved every moment that I've had there, so it was about continuing that journey and see where it takes me."

Long-Term Trajectory

Ferguson acknowledged his developmental ties to Rangers, having spent time in their youth academy and retaining familial links to the Ibrox club. While confirming that an eventual return to Glasgow remains a long-term career ambition, the midfielder noted that his immediate operational focus remains anchored in Italy.

"It's no secret I grew up a [Rangers] fan. That's absolutely no secret. My family is involved in the club, and it was an aspiration of mine, a dream of mine as a kid and that's not changed," Ferguson added. "But I don't want to speak about that while I'm still a player at Bologna. I've got too much respect for them, but in the future you never know."

Ferguson is scheduled to feature in the central line for Scotland against Switzerland at home on Tuesday evening before returning to Bologna's domestic schedule.
