Contract Extension and Return from Wrist Injury
Red Bull has confirmed that Isack Hadjar will continue as Max Verstappen’s team-mate for the 2027 Formula 1 season. The announcement arrives as the French driver prepares to return to the cockpit at this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, concluding a three-race absence caused by a wrist injury sustained during the summer break.
Hadjar stepped into the senior Red Bull seat at the start of the 2026 campaign following a rookie season with Racing Bulls in 2025. The physical demands of Baku's 6.003-kilometer layout—marked by violent braking phases from high speed into 90-degree corners and sustained curb strikes through the tight castle section—will serve as an immediate test of structural recovery for the Frenchman's wrist after missing the previous three rounds.
Technical Integration and Team Assessment
Despite the recent injury layoff, Red Bull management moved early to secure Hadjar's long-term continuity alongside Verstappen. Team principal Laurent Mekies emphasized Hadjar's direct involvement in technical development and his adaptation to the operational pressures at the front of the grid.

“From the very beginning, Isack immersed himself in the team, spending every minute at the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve,” Mekies said. “You could see from that first weekend in Melbourne that he handled the step up with remarkable composure and had earned his place in this seat.”
Mekies added: “The period since his injury has been a difficult one for Isack, but this extension is a testament to how much we believe in him and we can't wait to see him back out on track.”
Next on the Track
Hadjar's return to the Red Bull chassis begins with practice in Baku ahead of Saturday's main race. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix serves as the opening event of an intense triple-header sequence, testing Hadjar's physical conditioning and chassis balance across consecutive race weekends.
